A Love Story part 1: Doubt
Caleb knocks lightly on the door and opens it with no reply. He wears the expression of a half-worried smile on his face as he sees Silas lying on the bed, not yet awake. His new top agent, his friend...his love.
He reaches into a pocket and pulls out a communicator picked up from the scene. The situation plays over and over in his mind, yet he watches it again. Silas arrived at the target site - a nearby park - where he would find one of the children the agency sought to covet for powers which could be used to their advantage. He brought all the normal supplies: a containment unit, sedatives, and a weapon just in case. He was well prepared for anything that could happen. 'So why did it happen?' thought Caleb to himself. It's not like the child was uncontainable, or rogue. Silas spoke to her in a soft tone - the kind of tone Caleb wished would be spoken to him. She was just a sweet girl, but with incredibly destructive powers.
Not really watching the video at this point, Caleb fast forwards to the part he remembers most. Paramedics arrive and they try all they can to revive him, but nothing they do can help Silas. Caleb showed up along with back up to make sure that the child didn't escape, but none of that could have ever mattered to him when he saw Silas. Only on the inside did he let the tears fall; outside with no emotions he ordered the paramedics to leave and said he'll take care of it.
He turns the communicator off and walks toward the bed. "You know, seeing you on the bed like that is kind of a turn on..." Caleb says as he reaches the side of the bed. He doesn't say anything more, not knowing what to even say in a situation like this. He just stands there, hiding his pain behind a sweet smile.
"What...What are you saying?" Silas says in a half daze. His eyes open, their red color focusing on Caleb.
Caleb smiles and runs a hand through Silas' hair. "You're as pure as the snow and ice. You're so beautiful and white." Caleb puts a hand on the albino-like skin on Silas' face. Silas turns away and closes his eyes. He strokes the cheek his hand is on as a means to comfort Silas.
"I failed the mission." He opens his eyes again, feeling better knowing his head is turned away from his boss as a way to ignore his behavior. "I am unfit to walk this world."
"No. You're an angel; you have a soul as pure and white as your skin." He reaches his hand out to touch Silas again but his hand is smacked away. Caleb looks shocked, yet retains his calm and puts his hand back down by his side.
"I'm..." Silas pauses as if the outburst made him tired. "I'm a ghost to you as I should be. A nothingless--"
His words were silenced by Caleb's kiss. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was like a whole lifetime to Caleb as the love he had made his heart race.
All Silas could do was lie there. No words came to his recently kissed lips. He tried to move but only managed to ruffle up the covers by his feet. Almost like he felt a sign, Caleb turned to leave.
"Some paramedics...there, you're cured. I tranferred part of my energy to make up for the energy taken by the girl's attack. Try to be more careful next time. I'm a busy man and can't afford to personally take care of my agents."
The door closed with a faint click. The only thing Silas could focus on were fleeting thoughts that raced through his mind. But there was something to be said for the feeling that came over him. That word reached his lips,"Maybe."
